ISO 9001 is the most requested and least understood certificate in this industry. It appears on every quotation, it is rarely checked, and when it is checked it is usually read as a statement about the tank. It is not. ISO 9001 certifies that a manufacturer runs a documented quality management system. It says nothing directly about the coating on any particular tank, and knowing the difference is what turns the certificate from decoration into evidence.
The useful question is therefore not whether a manufacturer is certified, but whether the records that certification should produce are available for your order. Shijiazhuang Zhengzhong Technology Co., Ltd. (Center Enamel) has held ISO 9001 alongside ISO 45001 since its early years, and the value of that shows up in paperwork rather than in logos.
The standard specifies requirements for a quality management system - how an organisation controls its processes, records what it does, and corrects what goes wrong. It is about the system, not the product.
Certification should leave a trail. On a glass-fused-to-steel tank the trail runs from the steel mill to the finished panel, and a manufacturer with a functioning system can produce every link in it.
A certified system can still ship an under-specified tank, because the standard does not set product performance requirements. Those come from product standards and from the project specification, and the two need to be requested together.
| Evidence | What It Demonstrates | Gap It Leaves |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 9001 certificate with scope | A documented quality management system is in place | No information about any individual tank |
| Mill certificates with heat numbers | Steel traceability from melt to panel | Nothing about the coating applied to it |
| Furnace temperature and time charts | The firing cycle was controlled and recorded | Cannot be verified after the fact without the chart |
| Holiday, thickness, adhesion results | The coating was tested and met the specification | Chemical compatibility with your stored liquid |
| ISO 28765, NSF/ANSI 61, AWWA D103-09 | Product, contact and structural conformity | Whether the system that produced them is consistent |
Every tank delivered by Shijiazhuang Zhengzhong Technology Co., Ltd. (Center Enamel) is engineered against AWWA D103-09 and EN 1090 with finite element verification of shell, roof and nozzle loads, fused at 820-930°C under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 control, holiday tested at 1500 V across one hundred percent of the surface, and assembled with Grade 8.8 bolts and manufacturer-certified sealant. Tanks are manufactured under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified systems, with coating to ISO 28765 fused at 820-930 degrees Celsius and holiday tested at 1500 V, structural design to AWWA D103-09 and EN 1090, product contact approval to NSF/ANSI 61 or WRAS, and an order-level documentation set covering mill certificates, furnace charts, inspection and test results, calibration records and pre-shipment inspection.
"ISO 9001 says the manufacturer does the same thing every time. The test records tell you what that thing is."
Not by itself. ISO 9001 certifies that the manufacturer runs a documented quality management system and records what it does. It does not set product performance requirements. For that you need ISO 28765 for the coating system, AWWA D103-09 or EN 1090 for the structure, and NSF/ANSI 61 or WRAS where the water is potable.
Ask for the records the system should generate for your order: mill certificates with heat numbers, furnace temperature and time charts, holiday test coverage, and thickness, adhesion and hardness results tied to panel identifiers. A manufacturer with a working system can produce all of them without being chased.
Read the scope statement to confirm it covers tank design and manufacture rather than trading or a different activity, check the accreditation body mark, and confirm the certified site name matches the manufacturing location in the quotation.
Yes. Certification covers how consistently the work is done; the specification still determines what is done. Volume, coating grade by zone, sealant chemistry, roof type, nozzle and instrument layout, access and external finish are all configured to the duty and documented before production.
