A 500 m3 makeup water tank is a metric mid-size buffer that serves a process line, a cooling system, or a plant reserve in markets that specify in cubic meters rather than gallons. The risk is quoting 500 m3 as a fixed diameter without checking the duty, the coating, and the site, which is how a buffer ends up too small for the gap or too wide for the pad. This article is a metric sizing and specification guide for a 500 m3 makeup buffer, and we cite a real delivered project of about this size as analogous proof.
A 500 m3 makeup water tank is typically a bolted GFS or FBE tank (or stainless for hygienic duty), used for process top-up, cooling makeup, or a plant reserve between bulk deliveries. Specify the coating for the water (NSF-61 for potable-adjacent), the 8.8-grade bolts and gasket for the temperature swing, and the foundation for the shell load. Center Enamel has no makeup or data-center project in this library; our real Guyana potable GFS project (505 m3 across 3 tanks, phi5.97 m x 6 m each, 2024) is cited as proof of delivering a ~500 m3-class potable-grade tank, not as a makeup or data-center delivery, and the application remains analogous and is not claimed.
Five hundred cubic meters is a substantial buffer that suits a process line with a steady top-up, a cooling system with a meaningful draw, or a plant reserve between bulk water deliveries. As with any buffer, the size should follow the makeup demand and the gap to be ridden, not the round number.
Mid-size metric; still demand-based.
A single 500 m3 bolted tank is commonly around 8.4 to 9.6 m in diameter and 7.2 to 9.0 m in height, a tall profile where the shell pressure and the foundation load are the design drivers; multiple smaller tanks can also sum to 500 m3 where the pad or the redundancy calls for it. Our Guyana project used three phi5.97 m x 6 m tanks to reach 505 m3, which shows the same volume achieved as a multi-tank array.
Single tall shell or multi-tank array.
For potable-adjacent makeup, GFS or FBE with NSF-61 equivalence is the default; for hygienic or corrosive duty, stainless 304 or 316 is selected. The coating is holiday-tested to 1500 V and the lining is inert (GFS Mohs ~6.0), so the tank resists corrosion and biofilm at this capacity.
Coating by water, not by volume.
A 500 m3 tank needs a designed concrete ring or slab, safe access for inspection, and a fill/overflow path; a multi-tank array also buys redundancy if one unit is taken offline. Confirm the pad and the crane access before the tank ships so the erection is not blocked by a late civil-works change.
Single shell or array with redundancy.
We have no makeup-water or data-center project in this library. Our Guyana potable GFS project (505 m3, 3 x phi5.97 m x 6 m, 2024) is a real ~500 m3-class potable-grade delivery cited as proof of building tanks of this volume, not as a makeup or data-center delivery. The sizing guidance above reflects documented GFS/FBE parameters, not a specific makeup contract.
Real ~500 m3 delivery supports the volume claim; the makeup application does not.

About 132,000 US gallons, which places it in the mid-size metric buffer range for process, cooling, or plant-reserve duty.
Commonly about 8.4 to 9.6 m in diameter and 7.2 to 9.0 m in height as a single shell; the same volume can also be a multi-tank array, as our Guyana 505 m3 project shows with three phi5.97 m x 6 m tanks.
One tall shell is compact but load-heavy; a multi-tank array spreads the load and adds redundancy if one unit is offline. Choose by the pad and the redundancy requirement.
GFS or FBE with NSF-61 equivalence for potable-adjacent water; stainless 304 or 316 where hygiene or corrosion demands it.
Always size from the makeup demand and the gap to be ridden; 500 m3 is a convenient metric reference, not a substitute for the duty calculation.
Not in our project library. Our Guyana potable GFS project (505 m3, 2024) is cited as volume proof; the makeup application is analogous and not claimed.
8.8 grade as standard, with sealed washers and medium-rated gaskets; higher grades where seismic or high-wind sites demand it.
A designed concrete ring or slab sized to the shell load, with crane access and inspection clearance confirmed before shipping.
Choosing the round number without calculating the makeup demand, then finding the buffer rides the gap poorly or overruns the pad.
A 500 m3 makeup water tank is a metric mid-size, demand-sized buffer, typically a bolted GFS or FBE shell around 8.4 to 9.6 m in diameter, used for process top-up, cooling makeup, or a plant reserve. Specify the coating by the water (NSF-61 for potable-adjacent), the bolt and gasket by the temperature swing, and the foundation by the shell load, and consider a multi-tank array for redundancy. Center Enamel's real Guyana potable GFS project (505 m3, 3 x phi5.97 m x 6 m, 2024) shows we deliver ~500 m3-class tanks; the makeup or data-center application remains analogous and is not claimed. Size from the duty and the gap first, and the metric buffer serves instead of surprising you at the foundation.
