The process of a dairy production plant begins with the receipt of raw milk from a dairy farm. Raw milk arrives via insulated tankers and is unloaded into collection tanks before processing. Milk tankers are usually equipped with pumps and flow meters to record the amount of milk loaded from each farm. The total amount of milk delivered to the dairy is confirmed by weighing the tanker or through a flow meter in the tanker compartment.
The measurement of raw milk delivered to the dairies confirms not only the quantity of milk to be processed, but also the quality of the fat percentage. The price paid to dairy farmers depends on these two figures. This is why the use of high-precision flow measurement instruments in tanker tanks is crucial. Ideally, the system would also measure the density and temperature of milk simultaneously. This allows the quality of raw milk to be verified before shipping to plant storage tanks.
