Glass Fused to Steel Tanks(GFS tanks) also known as Glass Lined Steel Tanks(GLS tanks), and Enamel Tanks.
Glass Fused Steel is fired at 820℃-930℃, inert inorganic bonds are formed between the enamel and the steel plate surface, combining the excellent chemical and physical properties of glass with the highly engineered surface of ultra-fine glass structure. The connection between enamel and steel plate makes GFS tank has more resistance to corrosion, acid and alkali.
Comparing with Epoxy, the epoxy layer only melt at 200℃, and there is no molecular connection or melting between the coating/glaze and steel. You can see the details of glass and epoxy bonding to steel in the following pics.
As for the service life of these two kinds of tanks, GFS tanks can last for more than 30years, Epoxy tank has to be replaced in 20 years and its service life will be greatly shortened if used in corrosive applications like leachate and other wastewater treatment.
