Anaerobic digestion is a series of biological processes in which organic material (e.g. animal waste, food waste, agricultural waste, wastewater sludge etc)break down in the absence of oxygen and then produce gas. The resultant gas is called methane or biogas which is widely used as a source of renewable energy.
