How to maintain the aluminum geodesic dome roofs?

Above-ground storage tanks require regular preventive maintenance, which will extend your assets and make them work for your team. For the dome, we recommend a visual inspection of the platform once a year.

Check the flashing connection where the dome meets the top of the tank to make sure they are properly secured and all fasteners are present.

Look at the pillar caps (slats) to see if there are any missing or loose screws. Is the gasket material fully compressed or wedged, and is the gasket elastic/aging? Is the gasket material missing?

Check the sealant visually. Does the sealant adhere to the material correctly? Is the sealant processed correctly and neatly? Is there any sealant on all joints/joints around the accessory interface?

Visually inspect the hub caps to make sure they are present, adequately sealed, and if there are any dents or penetrations.

Please note if any accessories are missing or damaged-circulation vents, hatches, skylights, etc.

Check the mounting brackets of the dome (dome boot) and confirm that they are properly connected.

Please be aware of any customizations or modifications made after the dome was originally installed.

Attention should be paid to unattended damage or defects of the existing dome. If there is a leak pattern on the floating roof, it should be recorded to help future repairs.

Once all issues have been recorded, a skilled contractor familiar with the dome can suggest the appropriate repairs needed to restore the dome to its original condition as much as possible. Beware of temporary repairs, such as applying more sealant to the existing sealant area or covering it with "glitter tape" tape. These may temporarily repair a leaking dome, but they do not provide a complete protection cycle and usually require a lot of cleaning or replacement parts to properly restore the dome to its waterproof state. If your dome leaks, be sure to have an experienced dome contractor inspect and evaluate the measures needed to resolve the cause of the leak and restore it to its original condition.
