Concrete is a high-quality building material that can provide long-term services in conventional construction projects, but for wastewater treatment projects, the inherent weaknesses of concrete are exposed, especially in the field of industrial wastewater treatment. The construction site of the concrete storage tank needs very careful and strict inspection to avoid the following project risks:

 

Concrete storage tanks can only store wastewater with low pH, sulfate, nitrate, phenols, and chlorine.

When the surface concrete cover is too thin, cracks, or loses alkalinity, the steel bars will corrode—a process called carbonization, which is caused by carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Chloride is a common component in wastewater and can also corrode steel bars by destroying the passivation layer on the steel surface.

Corrosion of steel bars causes cracking and peeling of the concrete protective layer.

Peeling can also cause cracking and peeling of the tank wall, which can undergo a cycle of wetting and drying. The salt in the wastewater crystallizes and expands in the pores of the concrete, causing damage similar to freezing damage.

Leaks around the water grid can be difficult to locate and repair.
