Storage silos are cylindrical structures, normally with covers. They can be made of many materials. Wood staves, concrete staves, cast concrete, and steel panels have all been used, and have varying cost, durability, and airtightness tradeoffs. Silos storing grain, cement and woodchips are typically unloaded with air slides or augers. Silos can be unloaded into rail cars, trucks or conveyors.
In Canada, Australia and the United States, many country towns or the larger farmers in grain-growing areas have groups of wooden or concrete tower silos, known as grain elevators, to collect grain from the surrounding towns and store and protect the grain for transport by train, truck or barge to a processor or to an export port. In bumper crop times, the excess grain is stored in piles without silos or bins, causing considerable losses.
Among all kinds of silos, the Glass Fused to Steel Tank is the best choice for grain storage. GFS tank has many advantages such as long-termed service life more than 30 years, convenient and rapid installation etc. The GFS tank is similar to glass, so it is very suitable to store grain or any organic bulks. What’s more, the tank can be easily dismantled, extended and removed. So compared with other integrated tank, bolted GFS tank is very excellent.
Traditionally, people will choose the concrete silo to store grains. But nowadays, with the technology development, it is no longer the best choice to be used. On the contrary, the Glass Fused to Steel Tank has much more advantages than concrete tank.
Here is the comparison table between concrete and GFS tank:
item | Concrete Tank | GFS/Enamel Tank |
Beautiful Degree Appearance | Low | High |
Temperature Adaption | A Stress | Adapt to low temperature |
Shape | Any shape | Round Shape |
Ground or Underground | Both | Both |
Easy to clean | Bad | Good |
Easy to repair | Normal | Good |
Weight | Heavy | Light |
Tank Cost | Middle | Low |
Corrosion Resistance | Normal | Superior |
Abrasion Resistance | Good | Good |
Service Life | 30 | 30 |
From the above table, we can learn that the GFS tank is really much more excellent than the concrete tank to be used as farm silo.
