Anaerobic Digestion & Biogas Tanks are gas-tight tanks with different configurations. An anaerobic digestion tank is a liquid storage tank used to digest stored complex slurries/wastewater into simpler compounds, which are then released gas, which is then used as fuel or exposed to the environment within allowable limits. The complex mud/sludge/wastewater includes black water, grey water, brown water, which includes sewage, farm waste, food waste, human waste, municipal waste, industrial waste, etc., which are used as waste for digestion.
Oxygen digestion is the process by which bacteria break down organic matter such as animal manure, wastewater biosolids and food waste in the absence of oxygen. Anaerobic digestion for biogas production takes place in sealed vessels called reactors, which are designed and constructed in various shapes and sizes according to site and feedstock conditions. These reactors contain complex communities of microorganisms that break down (or digest) waste and produce biogas and digestate (the solid and liquid material end products of the AD process) that exit the digester.
Multiple organic materials can be combined in one digester, a practice called co-digestion. Materials that are co-digested include manure; food waste (that is, materials produced by processing, distribution, and consumers); energy crops; crop residues; and fats, oils, and greases from restaurant grease traps and many other sources. Co-digestion can increase biogas production from low-yielding or difficult-to-digest organic wastes.
The biogas produced by the anaerobic digestion plant is composed of combustible gas methane (50-75%), carbon dioxide (25-50%), water (H2O), nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), ammonia ( NH3) and trace elements (organohalides, siloxanes, etc.). H2S, CO2 and water make biogas very corrosive.
