What is Anaerobic Digester?
An anaerobic digester is a sealed tank, deprived of oxygen, in which organic waste is broken down at an elevated temperature. This allows the waste material to decompose quickly and produce CH4 that can be captured and used as fuel.
The CH4, a renewable energy source, is used to produce electricity for the farm and people nearby. The system takes in waste sources such as dairy manure, organic waste, and farm waste.
After the biogas digestion, the remaining solids are composted; the liquid is seasonally applied to the farms as carbon-rich fertilizer.
The anaerobic digester system provides many benefits, including renewable energy, emissions reduction, landfill and wastewater diversion, and enhanced nutrient management on south campus, improving the environmental and economic sustainability of the farms.
What is glass fused to steel tank?
The steel round (cylindrical) shell of the tank is built from two - layer enameled sheets coated on both sides. The sheets are attached with special high-grade bolts and sealed by constantly flexible silicone (sealant) . The surface of connecting material and the shell itself are properly treated.
This is the only tank finish where two materials are fused together to achieve the best of both: the strength and flexibility of the steel combined with the corrosion resistance of the glass. The high temperature fusion of glass to steel fired at 850 degree results in an inert, durable finish. Applied to both interior and exterior, the GFS technology is able to withstand the rigorous of the construction site and provide many years of trouble free service in harsh environments.
